- Nucor reported third-quarter net earnings of 1.32 billion US dollars and sales of 11.25 billion US dollars.
- Management expects fourth-quarter earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter.
- Higher realized prices are expected to offset seasonal volume pressure in key steel businesses.
Nucor reported a sharp improvement in third-quarter earnings on October 26, 2026, while keeping its fourth-quarter outlook broadly steady. The company's release said higher realized steel prices and stronger volumes lifted results, with additional capacity projects progressing.
Strong quarter, firm expectations
Net earnings attributable to Nucor stockholders rose to 1.32 billion US dollars, or 5.80 US dollars per diluted share, for the quarter ended October 3, 2026. Net sales reached 11.25 billion US dollars, compared with 8.52 billion US dollars in the year-earlier quarter. The figures come from Nucor's investor release.
The steel mills segment generated 1.79 billion US dollars in earnings before income taxes and noncontrolling interests, up from 793 million US dollars a year earlier. Steel products earnings increased to 465 million US dollars from 319 million US dollars, while raw materials earnings rose to 105 million US dollars from 43 million US dollars.
Pricing offsets seasonal pressure
For the fourth quarter, Nucor expects consolidated earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter. Management expects higher realized prices to offset seasonally lower volumes and higher costs in steel mills, while steel products earnings are also expected to remain stable. Raw materials earnings are expected to decline slightly because of lower realized direct reduced iron pricing.
The company also reported operational progress. Nucor said its West Virginia sheet mill produced its first heat in September and that a second galvanizing line at Nucor Steel Berkeley recently started up. These projects expand capacity, although startup and operating costs remain relevant to near-term margins.
