- Nucor reported its strongest quarter in more than three years and expects fourth-quarter earnings to be in line with or modestly above the third quarter.
- The company plans to invest 60 million US dollars in its Alabama operations and add 60 jobs to expand utility-infrastructure production.
- Recent mill and galvanizing projects are intended to broaden capacity as demand from utilities and other end markets remains supportive.
Nucor reported its strongest quarter in more than three years on October 26, while management kept its fourth-quarter outlook broadly steady. The company also advanced a further Alabama expansion during the week, extending its footprint in utility infrastructure.
Strong Quarter Supports Steady Outlook
According to Nucor's investor release, net earnings attributable to stockholders reached 1.32 billion US dollars in the third quarter of 2026, compared with 607 million US dollars a year earlier. Net sales rose to 11.25 billion US dollars, while diluted earnings per share reached 5.80 US dollars.
The company said higher average selling prices and increased volumes lifted earnings in its steel mills and steel products segments. Raw-materials earnings declined because of lower pricing and shipments. Nucor also cited the first heat at its West Virginia sheet mill and the start-up of a second galvanizing line at Nucor Steel Berkeley as milestones in its growth program.
For the fourth quarter, Nucor expects consolidated earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter. Higher realized pricing is expected to offset seasonally lower volumes and higher costs in the steel mills segment, while raw-materials earnings are expected to be slightly lower because of reduced direct-reduced-iron pricing.
Alabama Investment Adds Capacity
On October 20, the Office of the Governor of Alabama said Nucor will invest 60 million US dollars to expand its Towers & Structures facility in Decatur and create 60 additional jobs. The project will increase utility-pole production and add laydown and galvanizing-inspection space.
Management linked the investment to demand from utilities modernizing and strengthening the US power grid. For investors, the project adds to Nucor's longer-term capacity expansion while the near-term outlook remains tied to steel pricing, shipment volumes and start-up costs.
