- Nvidia held 34 percent of China's data-center AI accelerator market in the first half of 2026.
- Huawei reached 28 percent after shipping 572,000 accelerators during the period.
- China's total accelerator shipments are expected to grow this year even as GPU shipments decline.
Nvidia's position in China's artificial-intelligence chip market weakened in the first half of 2026 as export controls constrained supply and domestic rivals expanded. According to StratNews Global, citing IDC data reviewed by Reuters, Nvidia held 34 percent of China's data-center AI accelerator market from January through June.
The real-time quote of Nvidia stock was 183.47 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:14 CEST on Friday, October 30, 2026, 4.07 percent below the Xetra close of Thursday, October 29. The quote was 4.08 percent below the 191.28 euros cited in the relevant October 29 report, separating the latest move from the Xetra day comparison.
Huawei narrows the market gap
Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in China during the first half, 44 percent fewer than a year earlier. Huawei shipped 572,000 units, up from more than 300,000 a year earlier, and captured 28 percent of the market.
Alibaba's T-Head held 7 percent, while Cambricon, Baidu's Kunlunxin and Hygon accounted for 5 percent, 4 percent and 3 percent respectively. Huawei, T-Head, Kunlunxin and Cambricon together represented 95 percent of China's non-GPU accelerator segment, according to the cited IDC figures.
Export controls alter demand
US restrictions have limited Nvidia's ability to sell its most advanced products in China, while Beijing has encouraged domestic alternatives and imposed approval requirements for compliant imports. China received 2.008 million AI accelerators in the first half; GPU shipments fell 26 percent to 991,000, while other accelerators rose nearly 80 percent to 1.016 million.
IDC expects China's total AI accelerator shipments to increase 19 percent in 2026 even as GPU shipments decline 9 percent. For investors, the figures add regional risk to Nvidia's broader AI infrastructure growth story because local suppliers are gaining scale in workloads that do not depend on Nvidia's highest-performance GPUs.
The broader market context is the S&P 500, the relevant benchmark for a US-listed technology company.
Further disclosures on China sales, export permissions and domestic accelerator adoption will shape the next assessment of Nvidia's regional growth prospects. More news and analyses on Nvidia stock will follow those developments.
