Record quarter supports higher targets
Third-quarter sales rose 9 percent year over year to USD 5.12 billion, while comparable-store sales increased 7.2 percent. Gross profit climbed 10 percent to USD 2.68 billion, and operating income rose 13 percent to USD 1.10 billion.
Net income increased 8 percent to USD 786 million, and diluted earnings per share rose 14 percent to USD 0.97. Management said professional-business growth was in the double digits and DIY sales advanced at a mid-single-digit rate.
Guidance reflects stronger demand
O'Reilly raised its full-year comparable-store sales outlook to 5.5 percent to 6.5 percent from 4.0 percent to 6.0 percent. It now expects revenue of USD 19.0 billion to USD 19.3 billion, an operating margin of 19.5 percent to 20.0 percent and diluted earnings per share of USD 3.25 to USD 3.35.
The company said the updated targets include the strong quarter, expectations for the fourth quarter and a USD 39 million tariff-refund benefit. That benefit supported quarterly earnings but is not part of the underlying sales trend.
Expansion and buybacks shape returns
O'Reilly opened 173 net new stores during the first nine months of 2026 and remains on track for 225 to 235 openings this year. The retailer operated 6,758 stores at September 30 across the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada.
The company repurchased 11.8 million shares for USD 1.03 billion during the quarter. Through the first nine months, buybacks totaled 38.5 million shares and USD 3.47 billion.
