AI Security Opportunity Takes Shape

  • Management still sees AI agent security as too small to materially affect fiscal 2027 revenue.
  • Competition from Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike raises the bar for execution.

Okta is positioning identity security for the growing use of artificial intelligence agents, but the new business remains an early-stage growth opportunity. A Yahoo Finance analysis published on Thursday, October 29, said the company had reported dozens of AI agent security deals in its second fiscal quarter, including several worth more than USD 1 million.

One highlighted customer was a Fortune 50 healthcare company that selected Okta to discover, secure and govern AI agents across human and non-human identities. Okta also won business with a global consulting firm and a major asset manager, according to the analysis.

Platform Expansion Meets Competition

Okta is broadening its offering with Agent Gateway, which applies security policies at runtime across platforms and clouds. The company has also introduced Okta for AI Agents Core for regulated environments and added Agent SSO capabilities to its core single sign-on product.

The company completed its acquisition of Permiso, a cloud-native identity security platform focused on threats involving human, non-human and AI agent identities. The move is intended to strengthen visibility, access control and threat detection as enterprises deploy more automated systems.

The opportunity comes with established rivals. Palo Alto Networks is expanding Prisma AIRS for AI applications and agents, while CrowdStrike is extending identity protection to AI agents through its broader security platform. Okta's vendor-neutral approach and customer base may support adoption, but converting early demand into recurring revenue remains the key execution test.

Management said AI agent security was still too small to materially affect fiscal 2027 revenue, although it expects the opportunity to become more significant over time. Investors will therefore focus on paid deployments and the speed at which the pipeline develops.
