- Blue Arbor is developing external and implantable sensing units for prosthetic control.
- The RESTORE system targets more intuitive movement across several prosthetic joints.
- Ottobock's next scheduled quarterly communication is set for November 12, 2026.
Blue Arbor Technologies reported the close of a USD 10.5 million Series A financing on October 28, 2026, with Ottobock leading the round. The additional clinical detail was reported by Orthopaedic Product News, which reproduced the company announcement.
Clinical progress adds a new detail
Blue Arbor said the funding will support feasibility testing, an application for a U.S. Food and Drug Administration Investigational Device Exemption and U.S. clinical studies for the RESTORE external sensing unit. Development will also begin on a fully implantable internal sensing unit.
The latest announcement adds that feasibility work has included a successful second-in-human procedure with the external sensing unit at the Medical University of Vienna. Blue Arbor also said RESTORE was selected for a University of Michigan clinical study supported by a UG3 grant from the National Institutes of Health. That study will compare surface electrodes with implanted electrodes for prosthetic control.
Strategic relevance for Ottobock
The RESTORE platform is designed to enable independent and simultaneous control of the fingers, wrist and elbow. Blue Arbor has developed external and implantable versions, while the system has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and entered the Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program pilot.
For Ottobock, the transaction expands its exposure to neuromuscular interfaces alongside its established prosthetics, neuro-orthotics and exoskeleton activities. It remains a development and regulatory project rather than a commercial product launch, so its financial contribution cannot yet be assessed from the announcement.
