- Panasonic's Energy unit sharply increased second-quarter operating profit on stronger vehicle-battery and data-center storage sales.
- The group raised its fiscal-year operating-profit forecast as AI-related demand supported the outlook.
- North American battery sales and strategic-customer demand remain key execution factors for investors.
Panasonic Holdings raised its full-year operating-profit outlook on Friday, October 30, after a sharp increase in second-quarter earnings at its Energy unit. The update adds a stronger battery and AI-infrastructure growth signal to the company's fiscal 2027 outlook.
Reuters reported that Energy operating profit reached JPY 55.6 billion in the second quarter, compared with JPY 1.2 billion a year earlier. Higher sales of in-vehicle batteries in North America and energy-storage systems for data centers supported the result.
Battery gains broaden the outlook
Panasonic raised Energy's full-year operating-profit forecast for the year ending March 2027 by 16 percent, from JPY 171 billion to JPY 198 billion. The company said demand from strategic customers for in-vehicle batteries continued to outperform the overall market.
At group level, Panasonic lifted its full-year operating-profit forecast by JPY 120 billion, or 20 percent, to JPY 710 billion. Reuters linked part of the increase to stronger-than-expected growth in AI-related businesses. For investors, the revised outlook broadens the earnings drivers beyond electric vehicles to include data-center infrastructure.
