Ping An Bank is formalizing board-level oversight of artificial intelligence as its use expands across compliance and operational reviews. The Asian Banker reported that the bank's board approved an AI management policy on September 30, with the strategy committee responsible for coordinating development and applications.
Governance moves to board level
The policy covers data security, algorithm risk, ethical review and accountability. Ping An Bank said AI risks would be incorporated into comprehensive risk management and classified by risk level, linking individual applications to a broader control framework.
The Asian Banker also reported that Ping An's interim report recorded more than 450 large-model use cases by June. The report listed 140 operational-review agents across 55 scenarios, including anti-money-laundering due diligence and account review.
For investors, the policy marks a shift from individual AI deployments toward oversight of the technology lifecycle. It may clarify responsibility as automation becomes more embedded in banking and insurance operations, but the policy itself does not establish the financial return from those deployments.
