Prosus is expanding its India fintech exposure after investing 100 million US dollars in Navi, adding a consumer-facing platform to a portfolio that already includes PayU and other digital businesses. The move and the group's broader investment approach were discussed by Prosus India head Ashutosh Sharma in an interview with Mint published on Tuesday, November 3, according to TradingView.

Consumer fintech fills portfolio gap

The investment gives Prosus an 8.5 percent stake in Navi after approval by India's Competition Commission. The transaction was entirely primary, directing the capital to Navi rather than to existing shareholders.

Navi combines UPI payments, credit, insurance and broking in one platform. Its operating revenue rose 16.2 percent year on year to 2,981.7 crore rupees in the financial year ended March 31, 2026, while consolidated net loss widened to 466 crore rupees from 126.4 crore rupees a year earlier, according to figures cited in the TradingView report.

Platform model guides new investments

Sharma said Prosus prefers platform and marketplace businesses over single-product companies. The strategy spans financial services and consumer categories, including food delivery, quick commerce, mobility, travel, e-commerce and home services.

Prosus also continues to build concentrated positions in late-stage businesses. Sharma identified Rapido, Vastu Finance, PayU and Navi among the group's companies that could potentially access public markets, adding that three or four were ready from that standpoint but that timing remained with the companies.

For investors, Navi broadens Prosus's exposure to India's consumer economy but also adds an earlier-stage asset with a reported loss. The portfolio approach offers growth potential while leaving the investment case dependent on whether individual platforms can scale profitably.
