- Randstad's new workforce research points to stronger demand for technology talent as AI changes required skills.
- Flexible staffing models and digital talent marketplaces are becoming central tools for closing AI-related skills gaps.
- The findings add a new strategic angle to Randstad's recovery story after its third-quarter update.
Randstad's latest workforce research adds a new angle to the staffing group's recovery story: artificial intelligence is changing the mix of skills employers seek while technology hiring continues to expand. The report was presented on November 3, according to The Global Recruiter.
AI reshapes technology hiring
The report found that 86 percent of organisations are growing their technology headcount, while job postings requiring AI capabilities increased more than fivefold over the past year. The findings point to expanding demand rather than a simple substitution of technology workers by software.
Randstad also reported that 61 percent of employers find human capabilities such as critical thinking and communication harder to source than technical skills alone. Demand for AI risk-governance expertise rose 108 percent, while talent supply increased 69 percent, highlighting a widening gap around oversight and implementation.
Flexible talent gains importance
For Randstad, the findings support a broader role for temporary, freelance, contract and fractional staffing. Some 63 percent of organisations named flexible talent as their first-choice approach for closing AI skills gaps. Digital talent marketplaces are also becoming more prominent: 92 percent of organisations use them for recruitment, and 42 percent rely on them as their primary channel.
Randstad CEO Sander van 't Noordende said employers increasingly need people who can apply AI while exercising judgment, communication and governance skills. For investors, that places execution in digital marketplaces and specialist staffing at the centre of the company's technology opportunity, without removing the risks tied to hiring demand and margin conversion.
What comes next for Randstad
The research broadens the strategic context around Randstad's recent third-quarter recovery. The next test is whether rising demand for AI-related talent translates into durable staffing volumes and profitable delivery across the group's markets.
The Dutch market backdrop remains relevant for Randstad stock as investors assess the outlook for European hiring activity. Current market reports are available through the AEX market overview.
