RELX reported strong underlying revenue growth for the first nine months of 2026 and reaffirmed its full-year outlook in an October 22 trading update. Hargreaves Lansdown said the update supported confidence in the group's growth targets, while noting that the shares were broadly flat in early trading. Hargreaves Lansdown published its analysis on the same day.

RELX's underlying revenue increased 7 percent in the period. The company said its long-term growth trajectory continued to benefit from a shift toward higher-growth analytics and decision tools, combining specialist content and proprietary information with advanced technology.

Legal And Risk Lead Growth

Legal was the strongest of the main operating segments cited in the trading update, with underlying revenue growth of 10 percent. Demand for integrated legal research and analytics tools, together with strong new sales, supported the performance.

Risk recorded 8 percent underlying revenue growth. Financial crime compliance products and digital fraud and identity solutions remained important drivers, alongside the use of embedded analytics and decision tools. Scientific, Technical and Medical delivered 6 percent growth, supported by new products, stronger sales and increasing use of AI-enabled research tools.

Hargreaves Lansdown described the segment performance as reassurance rather than a major surprise. The analyst also argued that RELX's access to specialist information, customer-contributed records and long-established professional workflows could help the group benefit from artificial intelligence rather than face only substitution risk.

Outlook Remains Unchanged

RELX continues to expect another year of strong underlying revenue growth, strong adjusted operating profit growth and strong growth in adjusted earnings per share at constant exchange rates. In Risk, Scientific, Technical and Medical, and Legal, management expects adjusted operating profit to grow faster than underlying revenue.

The outlook leaves execution and adoption of AI-enabled products as the main near-term focus for investors. Legal analytics, risk tools and the recently launched research workspace in Scientific, Technical and Medical will need to convert customer interest into recurring commercial growth. Exhibitions provide diversification, although Middle East disruption continues to weigh on that business.
