UBS upgraded Ross Stores from Neutral to Buy on Monday, October 26, and lifted its price target from 239 US dollars to 315 US dollars. The bank sees room for stronger sales as CEO James Conroy works to narrow the retailer's productivity gap with TJ Maxx, according to CNBC.
UBS raises its growth view
Analyst Jay Sole said the central question is whether Ross Stores can sustain its recent same-store sales momentum beyond the current year. UBS expects the retailer to generate revenue growth at a compound annual rate of roughly 8.5% over the next two years, about 260 basis points above the Street consensus cited by CNBC.
Ross Stores stock traded at 206.60 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 5:08 p.m. CET on Friday, October 30.
Productivity gap offers a catalyst
Ross Stores and TJ Maxx had broadly similar store productivity in 2017, according to UBS. By the end of 2025, Ross Stores' productivity had risen 24%, while TJ Maxx had achieved a 44% increase.
UBS identified stronger merchandising, better in-store execution and increased marketing as levers for narrowing that difference. Conroy joined Ross Stores in February 2025, putting the strategy under a management team focused on improving store economics.
