RWE stock is in focus after RWE Supply & Trading Americas withdrew its planned Fourth Quarter battery from Maryland's first large-scale storage solicitation. The withdrawal took place on August 28, while the Maryland Public Service Commission ruled on October 1.
RWE stock traded at 56.98 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:19 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026, 0.97 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, October 30, at 57.54 euros. Investors can follow the real-time quote of RWE stock.
Withdrawal Changes Maryland Route
The 300-megawatt Fourth Quarter battery was planned for the former Dickerson coal plant in Montgomery County. According to Moderately Moco, RWE's withdrawal notice said the company had decided to pursue an alternative path to construct and commercialize the project as planned. The notice did not provide a more detailed reason.
The commission awarded storage credits to two other projects with a combined capacity of 440 megawatts. RWE's project was not selected, despite ranking first among the five applications evaluated by the commission's consultant. The reported score range for the Fourth Quarter project was 93.86 to 96.93, ahead of the other proposals under each weighting scenario.
Project Economics Remain Relevant
The Maryland evaluation found that the Dickerson project offered the strongest projected customer economics among the applications. The commission's order cited modeled savings of 5.81 US cents per month for a typical residential customer, compared with projected monthly costs for the two projects that ultimately received conditional credits.
That assessment does not remove the execution risk. The project's schedule depends on transmission work by Pepco, and RWE's stated alternative route has not been described in detail. The project page cited by Moderately Moco continues to list Fourth Quarter as in development at the retired Dickerson Generating Station, with operations anticipated in 2028. The commission order sets October 1, 2028, as the planned commercial operation date.
Next Steps For Investors
For RWE, the decision changes the project's route to market rather than ending the development plan. Investors will focus on whether RWE can secure the required approvals, complete the grid connection and preserve the targeted timetable outside the first Maryland credit solicitation.
