Saab and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems have successfully flight-tested Saab's LoyalEye airborne early warning capability on the MQ-9B, Saab said on October 28, 2026. The test validated the integrated system's ability to detect, track and classify airborne targets from an unmanned platform.

The flight took place at GA-ASI's Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in Southern California. Stakeholders observed the capability in real time during a representative operational scenario, according to Saab.

Test Moves LoyalEye Toward Operations

The test forms part of an evaluation program that began with LoyalEye's first flight in May 2026. Saab said the system can operate independently or alongside crewed airborne early warning and control platforms.

For Saab, the development strengthens its surveillance offering around an unmanned platform. The MQ-9B configuration is intended to provide persistent coverage in missions where endurance, geographic reach and lower aircrew exposure are important. GA-ASI said customer interest in the capability is high, but the companies did not identify a launch customer or disclose a contract.

The real-time quote of Saab stock was 61.18 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:18 CET on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Saab's next scheduled full-year results are due on January 29, 2027, according to the company's investor calendar. Investors will focus on whether new surveillance milestones translate into customer commitments and orders.
