Safran has expanded its aerospace footprint in Malaysia with a larger carbon-brake facility in Sendayan and a new maintenance, repair and overhaul center in Nilai. The inauguration took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.

The Sendayan project represents an investment of 134 million euros and adds 7,000 square meters of manufacturing space. New equipment includes a textile line, carbonization furnaces and advanced machining systems. Safran Landing Systems expects the site to double its carbon-brake disc production capacity by 2028.

A separate 2 million euro facility in nearby Nilai adds 1,000 square meters for carbon-brake maintenance, repair and overhaul work. Its location near Kuala Lumpur International Airport and 20 kilometers from Sendayan is designed to connect new and refurbished brake-disc production with regional customer support.

Industrial Network Targets Airline Demand

The investments are aimed at the needs of about 100 airline operators across Asia-Pacific. The facilities will support fleets built around Airbus A320, A321 and A350 aircraft, Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft, and ATR aircraft.

Safran Landing Systems plans to increase its Malaysian workforce to 220 employees by 2030 across manufacturing and MRO operations. The Sendayan site currently employs 160 people. The company also said the facility cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 60 percent between 2018 and 2025 through lower-carbon local energy and process-gas recovery.

Safran Landing Systems CEO François Bastin said the Malaysian investments are intended to provide faster end-to-end wheels and brakes services closer to customers while developing local talent and reducing the environmental footprint. The announcement is an operating expansion rather than a new group-wide earnings forecast.
