- Safran and Singapore's Economic Development Board signed a memorandum for Safran.AI Singapore.
- The planned subsidiary will develop artificial intelligence tools for aerospace and industrial applications across ASEAN.
- Hiring is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with about 50 positions planned over five years.
Safran signed a memorandum with Singapore's Economic Development Board on October 29 to establish Safran.AI Singapore, an international subsidiary focused on artificial intelligence for aerospace and industrial applications. The announcement was reported by MRO Business Today.
The planned AI Centre of Excellence will initially target automated digital inspections and support Safran's MRO 4.0 program. Safran said the Singapore operation will develop solutions for the group, its partners and customers while drawing on local engineering talent, universities and the country's technology ecosystem.
Singapore becomes an AI base
Safran.AI Singapore is intended to serve customers across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The company plans to recruit data scientists and AI engineers from the first quarter of 2027, with the operation expected to employ approximately 50 people over the following five years.
Sébastien Fabre, chief executive of Safran.AI, said the subsidiary would support regional growth through Singapore's aviation maintenance ecosystem. Philippe Errera, Safran's executive vice president for international development and government affairs, pointed to the country's business environment, academic capabilities and government support.
The initiative extends an existing local presence rather than marking Safran's entry into Singapore. Safran has operated there for more than 45 years and employs approximately 900 people across five production, engineering and maintenance sites, according to the report. Singapore already serves as a regional base for maintenance, repair and overhaul activities, customer support and innovation.
Investment adds a digital layer
For investors, the plan adds a digital and workforce-development component to Safran's established aerospace footprint in Southeast Asia. The announcement does not provide a financial contribution, revenue target or earnings impact, so its near-term effect on group results cannot be quantified from the published details.
