Salesforce announced on Thursday, October 29, 2026, that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a provider of edge-native software for military logistics and sustainment. The company said the transaction would extend its Missionforce portfolio into frontline operations where military units may have little or no network connectivity. Salesforce published the announcement on the same date.
Rune adds tactical-edge capability
Rune's platform connects information from enterprise systems with real-time operational data in denied, degraded, intermittent, or limited-connectivity environments. Salesforce said the technology helps frontline teams forecast supply needs, optimize resources, recommend transportation routes, and make mission-critical decisions before and during operations.
The proposed acquisition would add situational intelligence, simulation, and optimization capabilities to Missionforce. Salesforce said the combination is intended to connect frontline supply and movement needs with enterprise workflows, improving resource coordination, operational visibility, field service, and asset management.
Rune's technology is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, according to Salesforce. The company described the transaction as its most significant national-security-focused acquisition and said it would complete the third layer of its defense architecture: the operational edge alongside enterprise systems and strategic planning.
Defense growth supports wider strategy
Salesforce said its defense business was growing 80 percent year over year one year after Missionforce launched, with customers across all six branches of the U.S. military. The company also cited a 10-year U.S. Army contract with a ceiling of 5.6 billion U.S. dollars as part of the business's recent momentum.
Financial terms for the Rune transaction were not disclosed in Salesforce's announcement. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal 2027, which ends January 31, 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Until completion, the agreement remains subject to those conditions.
