- Indonesian gas export cuts expose Sembcorp to potential replacement costs and margin pressure.
- Macquarie expects tighter supply to support electricity spreads over the longer term.
- Sembcorp expects a stronger second half after Alinta Energy's first full six-month contribution.
Sembcorp Industries is facing a new supply risk after Indonesia began cutting natural-gas exports to Singapore on October 24, according to The Business Times. The Singapore utility imports piped gas from Indonesia's West Natuna region, increasing its exposure to tighter supply.
DBS warned that further cuts or more expensive replacement gas could pressure power-generation margins. The brokerage also noted that Sembcorp has contractual pass-through mechanisms and hedging arrangements that may cushion part of the impact.
Macquarie keeps neutral stance
Macquarie Equity Research retained its neutral rating and SGD 6.39 target on October 26. Analyst Foo Zhiwei expects tighter gas availability to widen spark spreads, the difference between electricity prices and gas-generation costs, although the improvement may be smaller than during the 2021 disruption.
Citi maintained a buy rating and SGD 6.92 target. It cautioned that higher liquefied-natural-gas costs could temporarily squeeze margins if Sembcorp needs LNG to meet existing customer contracts, while its diversified supply portfolio and long-term agreements with TotalEnergies and Shell reduce the risk of a major disruption.
Second-half recovery remains key
Sembcorp reported first-half 2026 net profit of SGD 150 million, down 72 percent year on year after one-off costs tied to the Alinta Energy acquisition and weaker core-business contributions. Underlying net profit fell 25 percent to SGD 369 million, while the interim dividend rose to SGD 0.11 per share from SGD 0.09.
Management expects a stronger second half, supported by a full six-month contribution from Alinta, higher land sales and improved gas earnings. Renewables remain under pressure from weaker wind and solar resources and lower tariffs in China.
Sembcorp stock traded at 4.08 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:38 CEST on Friday, October 30, 2026. The quote provides a live market reference, while the Singapore-dollar analyst targets remain the main valuation markers for investors.
