ServiceNow stock faces a tougher test as AI targets rise

- ServiceNow raised its 2026 AI annual contract value target to 1.7 billion US dollars.
- Fourth-quarter subscription revenue is guided to 4.245 billion to 4.255 billion US dollars, while cRPO growth is expected at 18.5 percent.
- The company lifted its full-year free cash flow margin outlook to 36 percent.
ServiceNow reported its third-quarter results on Wednesday, October 28, for the period ended September 30. The release showed strong subscription growth and higher annual targets, while a below-consensus adjusted earnings figure and a slower fourth-quarter backlog outlook kept investor scrutiny high.
ServiceNow stock traded at 94.45 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 5:30:42 p.m. Berlin time on Friday, October 30, 6.28 percent below the 100.78 euros quoted in the latest ad-hoc-news report on October 29 at 5:03 p.m. The comparison measures the move since that report.
According to MarketWatch, adjusted earnings per share came in at 1.00 US dollar, below the 1.02 US dollars expected by analysts. ServiceNow attributed the shortfall to lower interest income and additional debt costs after the Armis acquisition, according to the report.
Strong Growth, Softer Near-Term Signal
ServiceNow's subscription revenue reached 3.988 billion US dollars, up 21 percent year over year. Total revenue rose 20.5 percent to 4.106 billion US dollars, while current remaining performance obligations increased 20.5 percent to 13.65 billion US dollars.
The company raised its 2026 AI annual contract value target to 1.7 billion US dollars, up from 1 billion US dollars at the beginning of the year. It also lifted its full-year subscription revenue outlook to 15.780 billion to 15.790 billion US dollars and raised its free cash flow margin target by one percentage point to 36 percent.
The forward signal is less forceful. ServiceNow expects fourth-quarter subscription revenue of 4.245 billion to 4.255 billion US dollars and cRPO growth of 18.5 percent. That would be below the third-quarter cRPO growth rate and leaves investors looking for evidence that AI adoption is translating into broader contracted growth.
ServiceNow said production consumption of agentic AI had risen more than thirteenfold year over year. That operating indicator supports the company's strategy, but the higher AI contract target remains a goal rather than recognized revenue.
The real-time quote of ServiceNow stock remains the market's immediate reference point as investors assess the gap between AI adoption and reported growth.
The broader US market context remains relevant as software investors also weigh the risk that AI may reshape established business models; see the S&P 500 market theme.
