Société Générale reported record quarterly profitability on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as group net income rose 24.1% year over year to EUR 1.888 billion. The result was part of the bank's third-quarter and nine-month report, published by Société Générale on October 29.

Quarterly revenue increased 7.8% from the third quarter of 2025, while operating costs rose only 0.8%. The cost-to-income ratio improved to 57.1%, and return on tangible equity reached 13.0%, compared with 10.7% a year earlier. The combination points to stronger operating leverage as revenue growth outpaced expense growth.

Profitability moves above target

For the first nine months, group net income reached EUR 5.4 billion, an increase of 17.3% from the same period in 2025. Revenue rose 4.1% to EUR 21.4 billion, while costs declined 3.2%. The cost-to-income ratio improved to 58.8%, below the bank's 2026 target of less than 60%.

Nine-month ROTE was 12.3%, above the full-year 2026 target of about 11%. The cost of risk stood at 27 basis points, within the bank's 2026 guidance range of 25 to 30 basis points. Société Générale also reported a CET1 ratio of 13.4% at the end of the quarter, around 320 basis points above the regulatory requirement.

Global Banking and Investor Solutions increased revenue 12.5% to EUR 2.777 billion. These businesses helped offset weaker performance in parts of mobility and international retail banking, where quarterly group net income fell 8.6% to EUR 349 million.

Capital return remains in focus

Management also reiterated its focus on executing the profitable growth strategy through 2029.
