Record quarter supports shareholder returns
Southern Copper reported third-quarter sales of 4,696.6 million US dollars, up 39.1 percent from the year-earlier period. Net income attributable to the company reached 1,801.8 million US dollars, while adjusted EBITDA rose 53.9 percent to 3,040.2 million US dollars. The adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 64.7 percent from 58.5 percent.
Cash generated from operations increased 42.6 percent year over year to 2,224.3 million US dollars in the quarter. The stronger cash generation supports the shareholder distribution, although mined copper production fell 1.1 percent to 232,396 tonnes because of lower grades at Peruvian operations.
Projects shape future copper output
Southern Copper said Tia Maria was half complete in October and remained on track to begin operations in the first half of 2028. The project is expected to produce 120,000 tonnes of copper a year in its early years. Early site work also began at El Pilar in September, with production targeted for the second half of 2029 and an estimated capital budget of 551 million US dollars.
The two projects are intended to add about 156,000 tonnes of refined copper to annual production. Their contribution depends on continued capital spending and execution, while the recent decline in mined copper output remains a near-term operating consideration.
Payment date remains next milestone
Shareholders of record at the close of business on November 3 are scheduled to receive a quarterly cash dividend of 1.30 US dollars per common share and 0.0106 common shares per common share on November 19. Cash will replace fractional shares, using a 197.83 US dollar reference share price based on the October 15 average of the high and low prices.
