Mobile expansion faces regulatory hurdles

  • SpaceX plans to combine satellite connectivity with terrestrial infrastructure for Starlink Mobile.
  • The 800 MHz spectrum agreement remains subject to final FCC approval and closing conditions.
  • The Gen2 Starlink Mobile authorization covers 15,000 satellites optimized for 2 GHz spectrum.

SpaceX is expanding Starlink Mobile toward a hybrid satellite and terrestrial network after announcing an agreement on October 8 to acquire up to 14 megahertz of paired 800 MHz spectrum. The company described the move in its October 8 update as a step toward broader mobile coverage in the United States.

SpaceX stock traded at 123.00 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 16:43 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 2.04 percent below the Xetra close of 125.56 euros on Tuesday, November 3. Compared with the 117.39 euros cited in the previous SpaceX report on November 4 at 14:31 CET, the quote was 4.78 percent higher. That intraday comparison is separate from the Xetra-based daily move.

Low-band spectrum broadens coverage

The planned 800 MHz portfolio is intended to complement Starlink Mobile's global 2 GHz mid-band spectrum. SpaceX says the lower-frequency licenses should improve signal penetration through obstacles such as walls and support connections inside buildings, while the existing spectrum is designed to provide higher bandwidth.

The architecture would combine SpaceX's satellite-to-device constellation with terrestrial deployment. The company also says most existing mobile devices already support the 800 MHz band, potentially limiting the need for specialized customer hardware.

FCC approval remains decisive

The transaction still requires final approval from the Federal Communications Commission and remains subject to customary closing conditions. The agreement therefore establishes a strategic direction, but not a commercial launch date. Network construction, regulatory clearance and customer adoption remain the main execution issues for investors.

SpaceX also said in the same October 8 update that the FCC had approved its Gen2 Starlink Mobile constellation application. The authorization covers 15,000 satellites optimized for 2 GHz spectrum, while the company says the V2 satellites are designed to deliver more than 100 times the bandwidth of the current generation to unmodified devices.
