Separately, Swiss Re Ltd published a dated analysis with the London School of Economics that examined how reported corporate risks are becoming more connected. The stock data and company development refer to separate facts and are not presented as a causal relationship.

Interconnected risks move into focus

In the September 25, 2026 release, Swiss Re said the joint Swiss Re Institute and LSE analysis found 24% more links between risks reported by 91 Fortune 100 companies than in 2019. The release said artificial intelligence and supply chains had emerged as key points of connection.

The study described a broader shift across financial, digital, natural-hazard and socioeconomic systems. Swiss Re said the severity of a future systemic crisis may depend not only on the initial shock but also on where it strikes and how broadly its effects spread. The company also highlighted common suppliers, technology platforms and critical infrastructure as possible channels for cascading disruption.

AI and supply-chain exposure

According to the release, the share of companies reporting artificial-intelligence and new-technology risks increased by around 30% between 2019 and 2026. The release said those risks now extend beyond technology companies to industries including retail, airlines, pharmaceuticals and food.

Supply chains were identified as another important connection point. The company said geopolitical tensions, tariffs, climate events, pandemics and cyberattacks can interact through supply networks, creating several routes for disruption to spread across companies and sectors. Swiss Re’s analysis compared 10-K filings published in early 2019 and 2026 and used a large language model to help experts classify reported risks and map their links.

The release also set out examples of concentration risk. Swiss Re said more than one-quarter of U.S. data centers are in areas with at least three large-hail days a year, while more than 40% are in zones of significant tornado risk. In Taiwan, 88% of semiconductor plants are located in areas of extreme seismic risk, according to the company’s analysis.

Insurance opportunity and concentration

In a separate September 5, 2026 publication, Swiss Re said AI data centers and renewable-energy infrastructure alone could generate around USD 200 billion in cumulative commercial insurance premiums between 2026 and 2030. The company also described larger assets, geographic clustering, supply-chain dependence and shared networks as structural drivers of risk accumulation.

Swiss Re’s September analysis said insurance capacity for such infrastructure depends on understanding complex exposures, including property, business interruption, contingent business interruption and liability risks. It pointed to engineering-led underwriting, improved modeling and accumulation management as tools for assessing those exposures. The company said spreading large risks among insurers, reinsurers and capital markets can distribute them across multiple balance sheets.
