- S&P Global Ratings raised Synopsys to BBB+ from BBB and kept the outlook stable.
- The agency lifted its 2029 EBITDA margin forecast and sees Ansys synergies arriving ahead of schedule.
- AI-driven design demand remains a growth opportunity, while acquisitions and open-source tools pose risks.
S&P Global Ratings raised Synopsys and its senior unsecured debt from BBB to BBB+ on October 26, 2026, while keeping the outlook stable. In its rating action, the agency cited stronger long-term operating expectations after the company presented new guidance at its analyst day.
The current real-time quote of Synopsys stock was 409.50 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:45 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. That is 1.97 percent below the 417.75 euros recorded in the latest relevant report published on November 3.
Higher growth assumptions support credit
S&P lifted its annual revenue growth expectations for 2027 through 2029 to the mid-teens percentage range from about 10 percent. Its forecast for Synopsys' 2029 EBITDA margin rose to 49 percent from 45 percent.
The agency said management is targeting roughly 15 percent annual revenue growth through 2030 and operating margins of 50 percent. Synopsys combines electronic design automation, design intellectual property and simulation software in a silicon-to-systems strategy aimed at rising engineering complexity.
Ansys adds an execution milestone
S&P said the Ansys integration is ahead of plan, with cost synergies expected to reach 400 million US dollars by fiscal 2027, one year earlier than scheduled. Revenue synergies, AI monetization, higher-margin software and royalty income provide additional avenues for growth and margin expansion.
For investors, the upgrade improves the credit backdrop but does not remove execution risk. S&P warned that a large acquisition with limited EBITDA or stronger displacement from AI and open-source alternatives could pressure the rating. The agency also noted that Synopsys has not reiterated its previous goal of keeping net leverage below 1x.
