Thales stock is in focus after Advanced Acoustic Concepts, the French group's U.S. subsidiary, won a U.S. Navy contract on November 2 for remote mine-hunting modules. The award adds another defense program to Thales' international order pipeline.
Contract adds mine-hunting capability
Reuters reported that the initial contract covers two remote mine-hunting modules and engineering support. Options for additional modules could lift the total contract value to 196.2 million US dollars from the initial 53.9 million US dollars.
The modules are designed to let sailors detect, locate and classify underwater mines remotely from stand-off distances. The capability combines undersea sensing and mission systems intended to reduce exposure for personnel and naval platforms during mine-countermeasure operations.
What the award means for investors
The contract strengthens Thales' defense visibility in the United States, while the option value represents potential follow-on business rather than confirmed revenue. Investors will therefore need to distinguish the awarded scope from any later orders exercised by the Navy.
Reuters said the system supports remote detection, location and classification of undersea mines. The company is also building visibility in other defense programs, including radar and underwater systems.
