Tokyo Electron raised its fiscal 2027 outlook on October 30 after reporting record first-half results, while authorizing a share repurchase of up to 150 billion yen. The company cited resilient demand for semiconductor equipment used in AI infrastructure, advanced packaging and leading-edge logic production. East Asia Brief reported that the revised forecast would take annual operating income above 1 trillion yen for the first time.
Strong first-half performance supports forecast
For the six months ended September 30, revenue rose 41.3 percent from a year earlier to 1.6674 trillion yen. Operating profit increased 67.2 percent to 506.7 billion yen, while net income attributable to owners of the parent climbed 56.0 percent to 376.9 billion yen.
The September quarter generated revenue of 935 billion yen, up 48.4 percent year over year and 27.7 percent from the preceding quarter. Operating profit reached 295.3 billion yen, rising 86.4 percent year over year and 39.7 percent sequentially. The operating margin was 31.6 percent.
A separate Yahoo Finance report said the first-half figures exceeded Tokyo Electron's previous forecasts, with revenue ahead by 2.9 percent, operating profit by 10.6 percent and attributable net income by 8 percent.
AI demand drives higher expectations
Tokyo Electron's first full-year fiscal 2027 forecast calls for revenue of 3.7 trillion yen, operating profit of 1.169 trillion yen and net income attributable to owners of the parent of 865 billion yen. Compared with fiscal 2026, the targets imply growth of 51.4 percent in revenue, 87.1 percent in operating profit and 50.6 percent in net income.
The company expects second-half new semiconductor production equipment sales of 1.56 trillion yen, a 59 percent increase from the comparable period. Demand for dynamic random-access memory equipment, high-bandwidth memory and advanced logic tools is supporting the expansion, while spending on mature-node equipment remains softer in some markets.
The company also projects the global wafer fabrication equipment market at 160 billion US dollars in calendar 2026 and above 210 billion US dollars in 2027. That outlook places delivery schedules and customer investment plans at the center of the second-half execution risk.
Buyback begins as investors assess execution
Tokyo Electron authorized a share repurchase of up to 150 billion yen from November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. The measure is intended to improve capital efficiency and shareholder returns. The company also set a year-end dividend forecast of 108 yen per share after a five-for-one stock split took effect on October 1.
