Toyota Motor North America reported stronger electrified-vehicle demand in the United States on Thursday, October 1, 2026, while total third-quarter deliveries remained broadly stable. The company said sales of Toyota and Lexus vehicles reached 633,223 units in the three months through September, up 0.6 percent from the same quarter a year earlier.

The release from the Toyota USA Newsroom showed a much sharper change beneath the headline volume. Electrified sales, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and fuel-cell vehicles, increased 28.5 percent to 363,367 units. They represented 57.4 percent of quarterly deliveries.

September highlighted the shift

September provided the strongest monthly contribution. Toyota Motor North America sold 201,306 vehicles, an 8.4 percent increase by volume from September 2025 and a 4.0 percent gain on a daily-selling-rate basis. Electrified vehicles accounted for 117,215 units, up 37.8 percent by volume and 32.2 percent on the daily-selling-rate measure. Their share reached 58.2 percent of monthly sales.

The two divisions developed at different speeds. Toyota division sales for the quarter rose 0.5 percent to 540,167 vehicles, while its electrified sales climbed 29.2 percent to 325,227. Lexus delivered 93,056 vehicles, up 1.6 percent, and its electrified sales increased 23.1 percent to 38,140.

Andrew Gilleland, Toyota Motor North America's senior vice president for automotive operations, said the results reinforced customer demand for choice. He pointed to the company's multi-path strategy and said disciplined inventory heading into the fourth quarter positioned the business to finish the year strongly. Toyota and Lexus offer 32 electrified vehicle options at U.S. dealerships.

What the figures mean for investors

The sales mix gives investors an operating indicator for Toyota's transition toward lower-emission vehicles without relying solely on battery-electric demand. Electrified models supplied most of the quarterly volume increase, but the near-flat total also shows that stronger mix did not translate into broad unit growth in the reported period. The release does not establish the effect on revenue, margins or earnings.
