Profit growth returns in first half
Toyota's consolidated revenue reached 26.962 trillion yen in the first half, up 9.5 percent from the same period a year earlier. Operating income rose from 2.0056 trillion yen to 2.1911 trillion yen, while net income attributable to Toyota Motor Corporation increased from 1.773 trillion yen to 2.236 trillion yen.
Consolidated vehicle sales totaled approximately 4.758 million units, 25,000 fewer than in the prior-year period. The decline was partly linked to the exclusion of Hino from consolidation. Toyota said sales increased in Japan and Europe, while other regions, including Central and South America, Oceania, Africa and the Middle East, recorded a larger decline.
Regional earnings shape the outlook
North American operating income, excluding valuation gains and losses from interest-rate swaps, increased by 266.1 billion yen to 132.0 billion yen. Japan remained the largest regional contributor, with operating income rising by 138.8 billion yen to 1.257 trillion yen. European operating income increased by 13.3 billion yen to 207.7 billion yen, while Asia recorded a decline of 11.1 billion yen to 434.0 billion yen.
Financial services also supported the result. Operating income in the segment rose by 65.0 billion yen to 442.3 billion yen before valuation effects. Including those effects, operating income increased by 21.9 billion yen to 472.3 billion yen.
Forecast points to higher profit
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, Toyota now forecasts operating income of 3.9 trillion yen. The company expects revenue of 53.5 trillion yen, income before income taxes of 4.96 trillion yen and net income of 3.57 trillion yen. The forecast assumes an exchange rate of 157 yen to the US dollar.
Consolidated vehicle sales are projected at 9.70 million units. For investors, the revised profit target is the central signal from the results because it points to earnings growth despite lower unit sales. The regional figures also show that performance remains uneven, with gains in North America and Japan offsetting pressure in some other markets.
What investors watch next
Toyota's next test is execution against the revised full-year targets through the fiscal year-end on March 31, 2027. Currency movements, material costs, production disruptions and demand in China and other Asian markets remain important variables for margins and sales.
