UCB stock gains a new research partnership with Cradle to expand AI-assisted antibody discovery. Financial terms were not disclosed.

AI partnership tests UCB's discovery engine

  • UCB will use Cradle's platform from antibody hit generation through lead optimization and preclinical readiness.
  • Laboratory results will feed back into program-specific models in a recurring lab-in-the-loop process.
  • The collaboration strengthens UCB's digital research infrastructure, but its commercial impact depends on future development candidates.

UCB and Amsterdam-based Cradle announced a strategic collaboration on November 4, 2026, adding an AI-driven protein design and engineering platform to selected antibody discovery projects. The announcement was carried by PR Newswire on behalf of Cradle and UCB.

From discovery to preclinical readiness

UCB plans to apply Cradle's platform across selected projects, starting with hit generation and continuing through lead optimization and preparation for preclinical work. The collaboration extends UCB's digital antibody discovery and engineering program, which combines its internal discovery capabilities with computational science and external technology partnerships.

As scientists generate and test molecules, experimental results will feed back into models tailored to individual programs. The companies describe this recurring process as a lab-in-the-loop system intended to help researchers optimize several properties of a candidate at the same time. That matters in antibody development because strong target binding alone does not guarantee stability, manufacturability or a viable safety profile.

Alistair Henry, UCB's chief scientific officer, said AI should augment expertise across biology, chemistry and translational research rather than be pursued for its own sake. He said predictive modeling combined with laboratory validation could help the company design better molecules and learn faster. Cradle chief executive and co-founder Stef van Grieken said the partnership could give UCB researchers a common platform for more programs, modalities and complex engineering challenges.

Early research, long commercial path

The agreement is one element of UCB's broader effort to expand computational work in antibody research. BioPharm International reported that UCB also has partnerships involving structural modeling and digital antibody research, while the new collaboration leaves the programs, targets and therapeutic areas undisclosed.

For investors, the announcement improves the toolkit available to UCB's early-stage pipeline but does not represent a product launch or clinical result. The relevant milestones will be the emergence of development candidates and their subsequent progress into preclinical and clinical testing. UCB generated 7.7 billion euros in revenue in 2025, according to the company information included in the announcement.

UCB stock traded at 281.30 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:03 CET on Friday, November 6. Investors can follow the real-time quote of UCB stock.

European healthcare investors can track the broader market through the Euro Stoxx 50 market overview.

Further pipeline updates and evidence that AI-assisted molecules are advancing will determine whether the partnership becomes financially material. See more news and analyses on UCB stock.
