- Third-quarter profit rebounded sharply, but the result missed the analyst consensus.
- Record fee income cushioned pressure from narrower lending margins.
- Management expects full-year net interest margin to fall below its earlier guidance range.
United Overseas Bank reported a sharp rebound in third-quarter profit on November 4, 2026, but the result fell short of market expectations. The Business Times said net profit rose 182.2 percent year over year to S$1.25 billion for the quarter ended September 30. The figure was below the S$1.38 billion estimate cited in market coverage.
The real-time quote of UOB stock was 26.04 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:27 CET on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
Fees offset weaker lending economics
Record fee income was the strongest operating counterweight. Net fee income increased 19 percent from a year earlier to S$733 million, while wealth-management fees reached a record S$258 million. Stronger customer activity in wealth management, cards and loan-related businesses supported the earnings rebound.
Net interest income increased only 1 percent to S$2.28 billion, while the net interest margin narrowed to 1.68 percent from 1.82 percent a year earlier. Lower credit-loss provisions also lifted profit, making the year-on-year comparison more favorable but leaving investors focused on underlying lending profitability.
Margin guidance moves into focus
Chief financial officer Leong Yung Chee said UOB now expects full-year net interest margin to come in below its earlier guidance range of 1.75 to 1.80 percent. Rising funding costs are adding pressure even as loan growth and fee-generating businesses remain supportive.
