- Third-quarter revenue rose 12 percent to 3.44 billion US dollars, supported by cystic fibrosis medicines and newer products.
- Vertex raised its 2026 revenue outlook to 13.15 billion to 13.25 billion US dollars after closing the Crinetics acquisition.
- The FDA has set November 30 as the target action date for povetacicept in IgA nephropathy.
- Higher acquisition and commercial investment costs reduced GAAP earnings, while non-GAAP net income remained broadly stable year over year.
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is pushing beyond its cystic fibrosis franchise after reporting stronger third-quarter sales and raising its 2026 revenue outlook. In its November 2 earnings release, the company said total revenue for the quarter ended September 30 rose 12 percent year over year to 3.44 billion US dollars.
Vertex Pharma stock traded at 475.58 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:37 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Revenue growth broadens beyond cystic fibrosis
The company said growth continued to be led by cystic fibrosis therapies, including uptake of ALYFTREK, while newer products added to the portfolio. Third-quarter CASGEVY revenue reached 99.2 million US dollars, compared with 16.9 million US dollars a year earlier. JOURNAVX revenue rose to 58.3 million US dollars from 19.6 million US dollars.
PALSONIFY, added through the acquisition of Crinetics Pharmaceuticals, generated 10.1 million US dollars in September. Vertex completed the acquisition on September 1 and is now building a fourth commercial pillar in rare endocrine diseases. Management also aims to establish nephrology as a fifth commercial franchise if povetacicept wins approval.
The product mix still shows the weight of the established business. Cystic fibrosis product revenue reached 3.27 billion US dollars in the quarter, while ALYFTREK revenue rose to 705.8 million US dollars from 247.0 million US dollars a year earlier. TRIKAFTA and KAFTRIO revenue declined year over year to 2.44 billion US dollars, reflecting the transition within the cystic fibrosis portfolio.
Guidance rises as costs increase
Vertex raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to 13.15 billion to 13.25 billion US dollars from 13.1 billion to 13.2 billion US dollars previously. The new range includes at least 500 million US dollars from CASGEVY and JOURNAVX combined and 40 million to 50 million US dollars from PALSONIFY.
The guidance increase comes with higher spending. Vertex lifted its combined non-GAAP research and development, acquired research and development, and selling, general and administrative expense guidance to approximately 6.0 billion US dollars. The company said the increase reflects Crinetics operations and integration, as well as commercial investment for the renal franchise and the JOURNAVX launch.
GAAP net income fell to 653.6 million US dollars from 1.08 billion US dollars in the year-earlier quarter. Vertex attributed the decline primarily to Crinetics acquisition-related expenses. Non-GAAP net income was 1.2 billion US dollars in both periods, as higher product revenue was offset by increased operating costs, higher interest expense and lower interest income.
Povetacicept sets the next catalyst
The nearest major event is the US FDA's target action date of November 30 for povetacicept in IgA nephropathy. The company's submission is under priority review and is supported by positive data from a prespecified Week 36 interim analysis of the Phase 3 RAINIER study. If approved, the medicine would become Vertex's first commercialized therapy in nephrology.
Vertex CEO Reshma Kewalramani said the potential approval would allow the company to expand its reach into another serious disease area. The company is also developing povetacicept for primary membranous nephropathy and generalized myasthenia gravis, with additional study milestones expected in 2027.
Vertex Pharma stock investors will weigh the raised sales outlook against the higher cost base and the regulatory risk attached to the November decision. The Crinetics integration and the commercial ramp of CASGEVY, JOURNAVX and PALSONIFY will determine how quickly diversification contributes to earnings.
