Vertex Pharmaceuticals is broadening its commercial base beyond cystic fibrosis after reporting stronger third-quarter sales and raising its full-year outlook. In a November 2 release, the company said revenue for the three months ended September 30 increased 12 percent year over year to 3.44 billion US dollars.

New products add commercial momentum

Vertex said growth continued to rely on its cystic fibrosis portfolio, while newer products expanded their contribution. CASGEVY revenue reached 99.2 million US dollars in the quarter, nearly six times the year-earlier level. JOURNAVX revenue rose to 58.3 million US dollars, and more than 750,000 prescriptions were filled across hospital and retail settings.

The Crinetics Pharmaceuticals acquisition added PALSONIFY to the portfolio, with 10.1 million US dollars in September revenue. Vertex said the transaction established rare endocrine diseases as its fourth commercial pillar. The company is also preparing to add nephrology as a fifth pillar if its kidney-disease candidate povetacicept receives approval.

Guidance rises ahead of FDA decision

Vertex raised its 2026 revenue guidance to 13.15 billion to 13.25 billion US dollars from 13.1 billion to 13.2 billion previously. The outlook includes at least 500 million US dollars in combined CASGEVY and JOURNAVX revenue and 40 million to 50 million US dollars from PALSONIFY.

The next major event is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's target action date of November 30 for povetacicept in IgA nephropathy. Vertex said the application is under priority review and that approval would make the drug its first commercialized nephrology therapy. The company has completed enrollment in a separate proof-of-concept study in generalized myasthenia gravis and expects results in the first half of 2027.
