- Value-added services revenue rose strongly as Visa expanded beyond traditional payment processing.
- Management expects slower growth in fiscal 2027 than in the record fiscal 2026.
- Higher client incentives and upcoming contract renewals are key factors for investors.
Visa completed fiscal 2026 with strong payment activity, but a new investor focus is emerging around the cost of retaining clients and the pace of growth in the new financial year. A Nov. 5 analysis by Zacks Investment Research, published by Yahoo Finance, highlighted that fiscal 2027 will bring a heavier contract-renewal cycle.
What has changed since the last report
Client incentives rose 21 percent to USD 5.1 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter, according to the analysis. About 25 percent of Visa's payment volume is due for renewal in fiscal 2027, compared with 20 percent in the previous fiscal year. Higher incentives can help secure long-term relationships with banks and merchants, but they also reduce the revenue Visa retains from transaction flows.
The operating backdrop remains solid. Fourth-quarter adjusted earnings reached USD 3.48 per share, while net revenue rose 13 percent to USD 12.14 billion. Payments volume increased 9 percent in constant dollars, and cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe transactions advanced 14 percent.
Services add growth beyond payments
Visa's value-added services revenue increased 31 percent in constant dollars to USD 4 billion in the quarter. The business generated USD 14 billion in fiscal 2026, up 30 percent, while Visa Direct transactions climbed 23 percent. These activities give Visa additional revenue opportunities in fraud prevention, cybersecurity, advisory services and money movement.
Management expects value-added services revenue to grow in the low-to-mid-20 percent range in fiscal 2027. It also guides for low-double-digit adjusted net revenue growth and low-double-digit to low-teens adjusted earnings-per-share growth, below fiscal 2026's 15 percent revenue and 16 percent adjusted earnings-per-share growth.
