Walmart expanded two strategic growth initiatives this week, adding healthcare choices for customers and broadening warehouse automation with Symbotic.

Healthcare marketplace adds more choice

On October 26, Walmart announced an expanded Better Care Services platform powered by General Medicine's healthcare store. The marketplace combines services from General Medicine with more than 10 existing third-party providers, allowing customers to compare care options, potential costs and availability.

The offering covers areas including urgent care, pediatric care, mental health, nutrition and weight-management support. General Medicine said its catalog includes more than 2,900 products and services across medications, laboratory services, telehealth, specialist e-consults and selected in-person care.

Walmart said the customer-facing experience will provide information on insurance and cash prices before a customer chooses a service.

Symbotic agreement targets distribution network

On October 29, Walmart and Symbotic announced an expanded commercial agreement covering automation capabilities at 25 U.S. regional distribution centers. The companies said the initial commitment represents approximately USD 6 billion over several years and locations.

The planned systems are intended to support upstream e-commerce inventory management, increase storage capacity and improve product movement through Walmart's supply chain. The companies also said the initiative could broaden product assortment, improve speed and make replenishment more reliable.

Symbotic said the agreement supports additional opportunities across Walmart's global supply-chain network.
