- Branded Digital revenue rose 8 percent and transactions increased 21 percent during the quarter.
- The Intermex transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and a November 10 closing deadline.
Western Union reported mixed third-quarter results on Wednesday, November 4, with weaker revenue and earnings alongside continued digital expansion. In its third-quarter results, the company said GAAP revenue fell 2 percent from a year earlier to 1.0 billion US dollars, while adjusted revenue declined 1 percent.
Digital growth offsets retail pressure
Branded Digital revenue increased 8 percent on both a GAAP and adjusted basis. Transactions in the business rose 21 percent, supporting Western Union's digital strategy as its North America retail operation remained under pressure.
Consumer Services revenue decreased 2 percent on a GAAP basis but grew 5 percent on an adjusted basis. Adjusted earnings per share came to 0.42 US dollars, compared with 0.47 US dollars a year earlier, while GAAP earnings per share declined to 0.25 US dollars from 0.43 US dollars.
Western Union also reported a 13 percent GAAP operating margin, down from 20 percent in the prior-year quarter. The adjusted operating margin was 18 percent, compared with 20 percent a year earlier. The company said higher operating expenses and lower revenue from its consumer money transfer retail business affected margins; the quarter also included 37.3 million US dollars in costs tied to its Beyond efficiency program.
Intermex deadline remains central
The proposed acquisition of International Money Express remains subject to reinstatement of approval from California's Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. Western Union and Intermex can terminate the agreement if the transaction has not closed by November 10, 2026.
For full-year 2026, Western Union expects adjusted revenue growth of 0 percent to 1 percent if Intermex closes, or a decline of 2 percent to 1 percent if it does not. Adjusted earnings per share guidance is 1.28 to 1.38 US dollars in either scenario.
