The ATX closed at 6,264 points on October 22, losing 302 points or 4.6 percent. Renewed doubts over artificial-intelligence spending and higher oil prices pressured European equities.
AT&S fell 18.6 percent, while the ATX lost another 163 points, or 2.5 percent, from its midday level of 6,427 points.
Why did the ATX sell off?
Wall Street's technology weakness spread through European markets. Reuters reported that Nasdaq futures fell nearly 2 percent as Tesla and Meta earnings failed to ease concerns about AI investment costs. Brent crude rose 2.8 percent to USD 111.92 after new attacks in Saudi Arabia raised supply disruption fears, Reuters said.
AT&S led the technology-driven decline in Vienna. Banks also came under pressure, with Erste Group Bank, Raiffeisen and BAWAG among the weaker heavyweights, oe24 reported.
