- The BSE Sensex ended November 5 at 79,310.01, gaining 2.60 percent.
- Lower crude oil prices, renewed foreign buying and improved global sentiment supported the rally.
- The advance extended the benchmark's winning streak to six trading sessions.
The BSE Sensex closed at 79,310.01 on Thursday, November 5, gaining 2,008.61 points, or 2.60 percent, from Wednesday's close of 77,301.40. The benchmark finished near the day's high after a broad-based advance in Indian equities.
The closing figures and the main market drivers were reported by ETBFSI, citing ANI. The report said Indian markets benefited from easing crude oil prices and positive global cues following gains by Democrats in the United States midterm elections.
Oil and global sentiment lift benchmarks
Lower energy prices were a central support for the session. Brent crude was reported at around 96.02 US dollars per barrel, while crude oil traded near 88.56 US dollars at the time of the report. For India, lower oil prices can reduce pressure on the import bill and inflation expectations, although the market impact also depends on the durability of the decline.
Investor sentiment was additionally supported by expectations that the US election result could reduce geopolitical uncertainty. The improved global backdrop helped sustain buying across heavyweight shares rather than producing only a narrow index move.
Financial stocks lead a broad advance
Financial services and banking shares were among the strongest areas of the market. The ETBFSI report said Nifty Financial Services gained more than 4 percent and Nifty Bank rose more than 3 percent. On the BSE, Bajaj Finance, IndiGo, Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Infosys, HDFC Bank, TCS and Reliance Industries were among the stocks listed as gainers. NTPC, BEL, Adani Airports, ITC, Power Grid and Bharti Airtel were identified as laggards.
The Sensex's six-session advance shows a sharp improvement in short-term market momentum, but the rally's continuation remains sensitive to crude prices, foreign flows and developments in the Middle East. A strong index close alone does not establish how long those supporting factors will persist; investors may therefore focus on whether buying broadens and whether subsequent sessions hold the latest gains.
