- The BUX closed at 147,188.22 points on October 29, 2026, up 1.28 percent from the previous close.
- OTP led the blue-chip advance, while MOL and Richter also gained.
- Magyar Telekom declined as investors took profits, according to an Equilor analyst cited by Economx.
The BUX finished Thursday's session at 147,188.22 points, gaining 1,857.35 points, or 1.28 percent, from the previous close of 145,330.87. The Budapest Stock Exchange session was complete by the late European evening, making this a closing report rather than an intraday update.
The Economx, citing Equilor analyst Andras Takacs, described trading in Budapest as positive and turnover as average. The analyst attributed the gains among the leading shares to favorable investor sentiment, while identifying profit-taking as the reason for Magyar Telekom's decline.
OTP provides the main support
OTP was the strongest performer among the major BUX constituents, rising 2.76 percent to 42,750 Hungarian forints. MOL added 0.40 percent to 5,050 forints, while Richter gained 0.15 percent to 13,100 forints. Magyar Telekom fell 0.43 percent to 2,768 forints.
The TozsdeForum reported that the BUX advanced throughout the day and that cash-equity turnover reached 25.2 billion forints. OTP accounted for 13.7 billion forints of turnover, MOL for 5.4 billion, and Richter for 4.8 billion, according to the report.
Mixed international backdrop
Equilor's assessment, as reported by Economx, was that European stock markets also traded positively. In the United States, technology shares declined amid earnings-related pressure, while shares in other sectors advanced. That backdrop offers context for the Budapest move, but does not by itself establish a direct cause for the BUX's daily performance.
The Budapest Stock Exchange describes the BUX as its official blue-chip share index. It is calculated continuously in Hungarian forints and uses free-float-adjusted market-capitalization weighting, as detailed on the Budapest Stock Exchange website.
