- Renault, Dassault Systemes, Safran, Airbus and Thales led the Paris benchmark, while Pernod Ricard and Stellantis lagged.
The CAC 40 closed at 7,989.87 points on Thursday, October 29, 2026, up 1.30 percent. The Paris benchmark finished higher after investors assessed a broad batch of corporate earnings and prepared for the European Central Bank's interest-rate decision. The closing level and daily performance were reported by Ideal Investisseur.
Earnings support European markets
At the time of AFP's midday market report, the CAC 40 was up 1.0 percent at 7,762.67 points. AFP said investors were weighing fresh corporate results against concerns over the sustainability of the technology boom. Strong profits from Shell and TotalEnergies helped lift the London and Paris markets, while expectations that the ECB would leave rates unchanged also supported sentiment.
The broader backdrop remained mixed. Asian markets were mostly weaker, and AFP reported that Alphabet's earnings reception had pushed its shares sharply lower in after-hours trading in the United States. The technology-sector concerns contrasted with stronger European energy and industrial earnings, helping explain the divergence between regions during the session.
Renault leads the Paris benchmark
Within the CAC 40, Renault was the strongest performer, followed by Dassault Systemes, Safran, Airbus and Thales. Pernod Ricard, Stellantis, Carrefour, LVMH and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield were among the weakest constituents, according to the closing market overview from Ideal Investisseur.
The previous session had ended at 7,886.96 points, according to Admirals. The Thursday advance therefore represented a clear recovery from the prior close, although the index remained exposed to French fiscal concerns, bond-market conditions and the direction of global technology shares.
Investors turn to the next catalysts
For investors, the next market moves will depend on how central-bank communication, company results and US technology trading interact. The session showed that strong earnings can support European indices even when Asian markets and parts of the technology complex remain under pressure. The CAC 40's next direction will also be judged against the recent 2026 range and developments in French borrowing costs.
