Ethereum price pressured by upgrade delay and ETF outflows

- Developers postponed the Glamsterdam testnet activation on October 22 while reviewing EIP-8037 interactions with existing mainnet smart contracts.
- US spot Ether ETFs recorded about USD 220.6 million in net outflows in the week beginning October 19.
- Investing.com displayed Ethereum at USD 2,299.14, with a market capitalization of USD 282.70 billion, when read for this report.
- A large Deribit options expiry on October 30 may increase short-term volatility between USD 2,300 and USD 2,600.
The Ethereum price remains caught between a delayed network upgrade, persistent fund outflows and a large derivatives event. Investing.com displayed ETH at USD 2,299.14 when the Ethereum Kurs page was read for this report on October 30, with a market capitalization of USD 282.70 billion, 24-hour volume of USD 11.27 billion and a rank of 2. The page showed a live quote, but did not provide a separately verified UTC day-close comparison for the publication date.
The Ethereum Foundation said on October 22 that developers postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet. The activation had been scheduled for October 26, but no replacement date has been set. The stated reason is further investigation of how EIP-8037 interacts with smart contracts already deployed on Ethereum mainnet.
Upgrade timing remains uncertain
The postponement removed the planned Hoodi activations for the Amsterdam execution-layer and Gloas consensus-layer changes. It also removed a scheduled increase in Hoodi's gas limit to 200 million. The Foundation stressed that the announcement concerns the Hoodi testnet, does not establish a mainnet activation date and requires no action from mainnet users or ETH holders.
The issue is relevant for investors because the testnet is intended to rehearse changes before a live-network deployment. A review of the upgrade's gas-accounting proposals can improve compatibility confidence, but it also leaves the timing of the next milestone open.
ETF flows remain a market headwind
According to Admirals, US spot Ether ETFs recorded net outflows of about USD 220.6 million in the week from October 19 to October 23. The same report said outflows had declined from USD 542.1 million in the week of October 5 to October 9 and USD 320 million in the following week. The declining pace is a possible stabilizing factor, but the latest weekly balance remained negative.
Admirals also cited 44.1 million ETH staked as of October 28, equivalent to 36.12 percent of supply according to the data source used in its analysis. Strong staking participation therefore provides a contrasting network signal, while ETF demand remains weaker.
Options expiry adds short-term risk
CryptoTicker reported that 322,586 ETH options were scheduled to expire on Deribit on October 30, representing about USD 777 million at the reference price used in its analysis. Its data placed maximum pain at USD 2,500, with a concentration of puts near USD 2,300 and calls near USD 2,600. Maximum pain describes options positioning, not a reliable price forecast.
For investors, the immediate picture is therefore mixed. The Ethereum price is below the USD 2,500 options reference cited by CryptoTicker, while the upgrade timetable remains unresolved and ETF withdrawals continue. Those factors can amplify volatility, but they do not by themselves establish the direction of the next sustained move.
