- The IBEX 35 finished November 5 at 19,486 points, up 0.59% from the previous session.
- Laboratorios Rovi, BBVA and Bankinter supported the index, while Indra and Merlin were among the decliners.
- Corporate results, the aftermath of the US midterm elections and renewed oil-price gains shaped trading.
The IBEX 35 ended Thursday, November 5, at 19,486 points, gaining 0.59%, or 115.10 points, from the previous session's close of 19,370.90. Bolsamania recorded the closing level at 17:40 Berlin time. The index traded between 19,384.10 and 19,710.80 during the session.
Results support the Spanish benchmark
Laboratorios Rovi was the strongest large contributor among the stocks highlighted in the closing coverage, after reporting net income of 162.8 million euros for the first nine months of 2026, 67% above the same period of 2025. Rovi shares gained 8.31% by the close, according to ON Economia.
BBVA rose 2.05% and Bankinter added 1.78%, while Inditex and Repsol also finished higher. The advance came despite ArcelorMittal closing lower after releasing its nine-month figures. The steelmaker reported attributable net income of 867 million US dollars, down 70.8% year on year. Its adjusted attributable profit was 2.126 billion US dollars, reflecting the effect of exceptional items and impairments.
Election afterglow meets technology weakness
The IBEX 35 extended the rally that followed the Democratic victory in both chambers of the US midterm elections, but the session became more uneven as US technology and semiconductor shares fell sharply at the start of Wall Street trading. ON Economia said investors were concerned that the election result could constrain the expansion of data centers and increase uncertainty around artificial-intelligence investment.
Oil also remained a market focus. Brent crude was reported near 96.78 US dollars per barrel at the European close, up 2.3%, while West Texas Intermediate stood near 90 US dollars. That combination of stronger energy prices and pressure on US technology shares produced a less uniform backdrop than the index's intraday high suggested.
For investors, the session underlined the importance of separating the index's overall gain from its internal leadership: selected earnings surprises and bank strength supported the benchmark, while several industrial, infrastructure and technology-sensitive constituents lagged.
