- The IBEX 35 ended Thursday at 18,857.60 points, down 0.14 percent.
- Banking results, elevated oil prices and Middle East tensions shaped trading, while the ECB left rates unchanged at 2.5 percent.
- Ferrovial, Indra, Acciona Energia, Repsol and Cellnex led the gainers, while Mapfre, BBVA, CaixaBank, Unicaja and Inditex fell.
The IBEX 35 ended Thursday's session at 18,857.60 points, down 0.14 percent from Wednesday's close of 18,883.50 points. The Spanish benchmark therefore extended its decline for a second consecutive session, according to Europa Press.
Results kept banks in focus
Corporate earnings were a central influence during the session. BBVA reported attributed net profit of 9.066 billion euros for the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 13.6 percent year on year, but its shares still finished among the session's decliners. Banco Sabadell reported net profit of 1.376 billion euros, down 1 percent, including the contribution from TSB for the four months it remained part of the group.
Repsol reported net profit of 5.006 billion euros for the first nine months, up 325 percent year on year. The comparison included a 943 million euro inventory revaluation effect, making the reported increase an important qualification when assessing the underlying trend. Indra reported net profit of 355.5 million euros, up 22 percent.
ECB decision and oil shaped sentiment
The European Central Bank kept interest rates unchanged at 2.5 percent. The decision followed the Federal Reserve's previous-day decision to leave its target range at 3.75 to 4 percent. Investors also monitored energy markets: Brent crude traded around 114 US dollars per barrel during the European session, while developments in the Middle East remained part of the market backdrop.
The closing leaderboard showed Ferrovial, Indra, Acciona Energia, Repsol and Cellnex among the strongest performers. Mapfre led the declines, followed by BBVA, CaixaBank, Unicaja and Inditex. The closing figures and stock moves were reported by Europa Press; they are not presented here as a causal attribution between individual moves and the index result.
Market context for investors
The session illustrates the competing forces affecting Spanish equities: company-specific earnings, interest-rate expectations and energy-market uncertainty. A modest index decline does not by itself establish which factor dominated, but the combination leaves financials and energy-sensitive shares particularly relevant for investors tracking the next round of results and monetary-policy signals.
