A 3.87 million USDT exploit pauses 11 networks
According to Ground News, a contract flaw allowed an attacker to remove 3.87 million USDT from a contract used by NEAR Intents on October 26, 2026. On-chain data identified 3.87 million USDT leaving a contract on BNB Chain within six hours.
Ground News reported that the protocol patched the flaw and paused deposits and withdrawals across 11 networks during repairs. The report said the affected networks were expected to remain paused for 12 hours while the Omni infrastructure was repaired. The incident concerns transaction routing across chains rather than the core NEAR token ledger.
Issuance vote closes on November 2, 2026
A separate governance proposal would reduce NEAR's maximum annual issuance from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent after a 90-day grace period and a 24-month phase-in. TokenPost reported that the House of Stake vote closes on November 2, 2026, at 11:48 a.m. Eastern Time, or 16:48 UTC.
The proposal keeps 90 percent of newly issued tokens allocated to staking participants and 10 percent to the protocol treasury, according to TokenPost. The publication also reported that approval alone would not change issuance: a separate protocol upgrade must be implemented and adopted by validators. The proposal models gross staking yield falling from 5.268 percent to 3.372 percent at the lower issuance rate.
NEAR reports more than 32 billion USD in Intents volume

It also said more than 750,000 NEAR had been staked for confidential artificial intelligence inference, a system that uses locked tokens to qualify for recurring compute credits.
