NEAR Protocol price enters issuance reform spotlight

- NEAR governance proposal HSP-029 targets a gradual reduction in maximum annual issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
- The proposal retains the measured 90:10 split between staking participants and the treasury, but validator adoption remains necessary for implementation.
- Investing.com displayed NEAR at 4.6034 USD, with a market capitalization of 5.98 billion USD and 24-hour volume of 610.47 million USD when the page was read.
- A separate NEAR Intents exploit affected about 3.8 million USD, with the funds later reported as returned in full.
NEAR Protocol price is in focus as the network's tokenomics move through a governance change. The official NEAR Forum proposal for HSP-029 lists its status as succeeded. It would reduce the maximum annual protocol issuance from 2.5% to a 1.6% target rate over a 24-month, per-epoch ramp.
Issuance cut still needs adoption
The proposal keeps the measured 90:10 split between staking participants and the treasury unchanged. It also provides for a 90-day grace period before the first reduction and describes a separate implementation step: a House of Stake vote alone cannot change the protocol parameter. Validators must adopt the required network upgrade before the new issuance cap becomes binding.
For investors, the proposal creates a potential trade-off. A lower issuance rate would reduce dilution for holders who do not stake, while staking participants would receive fewer newly issued NEAR tokens. The proposal itself models lower gross staking yields as the ramp progresses. Those effects are projections within the proposal, not realized changes in the network's issuance schedule.
Security remains part of the debate
Security risks remain relevant after an incident involving NEAR Intents, a cross-chain trading protocol built on NEAR. Yahoo Finance reported that the October 1 exploit involved about 3.8 million USD and that the funds were later returned in full. The report said the issue involved the interaction between deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract, rather than the NEAR base blockchain itself.
That distinction matters for assessing the NEAR Protocol price: an application-level incident and a protocol-level failure carry different implications. It nevertheless adds a security consideration while investors assess the broader NEAR ecosystem.
Quote and project context
When read for this report, the Investing.com market page displayed NEAR at 4.6034 USD at 17:12:12. It showed a market capitalization of 5.98 billion USD, 24-hour volume of 610.47 million USD and circulating supply of 1.31 billion NEAR. The page also showed a 52-week range of 0.8482 USD to 5.9725 USD.
The project's official website describes NEAR as infrastructure for cross-chain execution, confidential settlement and private inference, and says NEAR Intents has processed more than 33 billion USD in volume. The tokenomics vote therefore combines a supply-side policy change with continuing questions about ecosystem usage, staking economics and application security.
