NEAR Protocol price weighs phased issuance cut after governance vote

NEAR Protocol price is in focus after governance approved a phased reduction in maximum token issuance. The change could reduce dilution, but it is not yet active and would also lower staking rewards.

NEAR issuance reform enters next phase

  • NEAR governance approved HSP-029 to reduce the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
  • The proposal still requires Security Council review, a grace period and validator adoption before it becomes binding.
  • Investing.com showed NEAR at 4.0210 USD at 08:43:49 Berlin time, while the verified November 5 UTC close was 3.70 USD.
  • The lower issuance target could reduce dilution, but it would also lower nominal staking rewards.

NEAR Protocol price is being assessed after the network's House of Stake approved a proposal to lower the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6%. The vote on proposal HSP-029 closed on November 2, 2026, but the new schedule is not yet part of the protocol rules.

The Block reported that the proposal would phase the reduction in over 24 months. The existing allocation of newly issued tokens would remain unchanged, with 90% going to staking participants and 10% to the treasury. The proposal is therefore aimed at slowing dilution rather than changing the basic emissions mechanism.

Implementation remains outstanding

The vote itself does not activate the lower rate. According to The Block, the House of Stake Security Council must first review the result. A grace period of about 90 days would follow ratification, after which validators would need to adopt a protocol upgrade. The issuance ceiling would then decline epoch by epoch until reaching 1.6% in the 24th month.

Coinranking reported that about 99.96% of votes supported HSP-029. Its account also noted that the proposal estimates roughly 11.8 million fewer NEAR issued over two years and 66.1 million fewer over six years. These are proposal estimates, not realized supply reductions.

Price and investor context

Investing.com displayed NEAR at 4.0210 USD at 08:43:49 Berlin time, with a 24-hour volume of 820.35 million USD, a market capitalization of 5.27 billion USD and a rank of 18. The site listed 1.31 billion NEAR in circulation. For the UTC daily comparison, the verified November 5 close was 3.70 USD, according to CryptoTicker. The displayed price was therefore 8.68% above that close.

The economic trade-off is material for holders. A lower issuance rate can limit the number of new tokens entering circulation over time, while staking participants would receive fewer newly issued rewards as the schedule phases down. The effect on the NEAR Protocol price will depend on implementation, network demand and broader crypto-market conditions; the governance vote alone does not establish a market outcome.
