- Twelve stocks rose, nine fell and seven were unchanged on the Lisbon exchange.
The PSI 20 ended Monday's session in Lisbon at 9,252.46 points, down 0.26 percent from the previous close. The decline followed a weaker performance in telecoms, consumer goods and financials, according to Investing.com. The closing level and session move were also reported by Jornal Económico.
Oil weakness weighs on the index
Energy heavyweight Galp was the main drag on the benchmark. Its shares fell 2.21 percent to 20.32 euros, the weakest performance among the PSI constituents cited in the closing report. Investing.com reported that Brent crude for January delivery dropped 7.81 percent to 104.57 US dollars per barrel, while December crude futures fell 7.32 percent to 96.50 US dollars. The sharp move in oil coincided with reports of diplomatic signals concerning the conflict in the Middle East, providing a clear sector-specific headwind for Galp.
The broader market picture was mixed rather than uniformly negative. According to Investing.com, 12 stocks advanced on the Lisbon exchange, compared with nine decliners and seven unchanged issues. The index nevertheless finished lower because losses in several larger or influential constituents outweighed the gains elsewhere.
Corticeira Amorim leads gainers
Corticeira Amorim was the strongest PSI performer, rising 2.04 percent to 7.00 euros on the day it reported results after the market close. Semapa gained 1.12 percent to 19.84 euros, while EDP Renováveis advanced 0.56 percent to 12.57 euros. These gains provided some support but did not fully offset the pressure from energy and other declining sectors.
CTT fell 1.59 percent to 5.27 euros and reached a 52-week low, according to Investing.com. NOS declined 0.67 percent to 5.18 euros. The session's performance leaves investors focused on whether oil-market volatility continues to influence Lisbon's energy exposure and on the next round of company results.
