- Elbit Systems was among the strongest large-cap performers, while Palo Alto Networks and NICE declined.
The TA-35 finished Thursday's session at 4,144.40 points, gaining 0.34% on the day. The close marked a modest recovery after the previous session's sharp losses, although the advance was not broad-based.
Sector gains support the index
Globes reported that the Tel Aviv Biomed Index rose 4.59% and the Tel Aviv Oil & Gas Index advanced 1.1%. The banking sector also contributed to the positive index performance. Bank Leumi, one of the day's most actively traded shares, rose 1.43%, while Bank Hapoalim gained 0.67%.
Elbit Systems stood out among the large-cap constituents, rising 3.03%. Tower Semiconductor added 0.94%, and Teva gained 0.87%. The stock-level gains helped the benchmark recover despite weakness in other major constituents.
Technology shares weigh on breadth
Market breadth remained negative: 249 shares declined on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, compared with 222 gainers, while 87 were unchanged, according to Investing.com. Palo Alto Networks fell 6.45% and NICE lost 3.70%, making them two of the largest drags among the index constituents. Menora Mivtachim Holdings declined 2.97%.
The session's strongest performers included Kenon Holdings, which rose 3.14%, and Navitas Petroleum, up 3.06%, alongside Elbit Systems. The contrasting performance between sector leaders and technology names indicates that the index gain was concentrated rather than a uniform market advance.
Market context
Total equity turnover was reported at NIS 4.60 billion, while bond turnover reached NIS 8.50 billion. The shekel's representative exchange rate strengthened 0.45% against the US dollar to NIS 3.1140 per dollar, according to Globes. These figures provide broader context for Thursday's trading, but do not by themselves establish a causal link between currency and equity movements.
