- UNUS SED LEO traded at 9.3451 USD on the Investing.com page at the displayed 13:30:39 Berlin time.
- Bitfinex has pledged at least 80 percent of remaining net proceeds from recovered hack funds for LEO buybacks and destruction.
- The eventual burn cannot yet be calculated because Recovery Right Token redemptions and other deductions remain unresolved.
The UNUS SED LEO price remained close to 9.35 USD while the market assessed Bitfinex's conditional plan to use recovered hack proceeds for additional token buybacks. The Investing.com page displayed a price of 9.3451 USD at 13:30:39 Berlin time and labeled the quote as real-time. It also showed a 24-hour volume of 138.85K USD, a market capitalization of 8.59 billion USD and a rank of 13.
Recovered Bitcoin creates a conditional catalyst
According to CryptoTicker, a US government wallet transferred 264.863 Bitcoin linked to the 2016 Bitfinex hack to Coinbase on October 6, 2026. The report says Bitfinex has committed to allocating at least 80 percent of the remaining net proceeds from this recovery toward buying back and destroying LEO.
That commitment is not the same as a confirmed burn amount. Recovery Right Tokens issued to users affected by the 2016 breach must be redeemed first, while other costs may also be deducted. Bitfinex has not published the size of those deductions, so the amount available for the buyback cannot yet be calculated from the reported transfer alone.
Why the burn figure matters
LEO already has a recurring buyback mechanism. CryptoTicker reports that iFinex has pledged to use at least 27 percent of consolidated gross monthly revenue to buy and destroy LEO, a process that has operated since May 2019. The recovered-funds commitment is a separate and irregular mechanism. The report also says that the recovery-related deployment is expected to take place over an 18-month period after Bitfinex receives the funds, although the starting point remains unclear.
For investors, the distinction between a pledge and a completed burn is material. A larger reduction in supply could support the token's scarcity, but the timing, net proceeds and execution remain uncertain. The UNUS SED LEO price therefore offers no simple measure of the eventual value of the recovery commitment.
Liquidity remains a key risk
Investing.com listed circulating supply at 919.86 million LEO and a 52-week range of 6.211 to 10.4132 USD. The displayed market data also showed a relatively small 24-hour volume compared with the token's market capitalization. For holders, that makes execution and position size important considerations: a limited trading flow can make exits more difficult even when the quoted price appears stable.
The latest developments should consequently be read as a conditional supply catalyst rather than a quantified financial benefit. Until Bitfinex discloses the relevant deductions and reports an actual buyback or burn, the recovery's effect on LEO supply remains an open question.
