Zcash is approaching a significant protocol milestone. The NU7 upgrade is targeted for activation at block 3,543,405 around November 5, 2026. The change is intended to reduce the network's target interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, a development that could shorten confirmation times for payments and exchange deposits.
The schedule is not a fixed clock-time event. Activation depends on the blockchain reaching the specified height, and the mainnet rollout remains subject to final readiness and adoption by miners, exchanges and node operators.
What NU7 is designed to change
According to CoinDesk Research, NU7 reached Zcash's public testnet on October 4 with support from the Zakura and Zebra node implementations. The report said testing across 80 nodes in 11 regions produced an orphan rate of slightly more than 3 percent for Zakura. It also noted that the shorter block interval is intended to preserve the network's daily issuance schedule through adjusted block rewards.
The upgrade would also disable version 4 transactions associated with Zcash's original Sprout shielded pool. CoinDesk Research reported that funds remaining there could become unspendable unless a later upgrade restores access. This makes wallet preparation and software compatibility relevant risks for users and service providers before activation.
Price and market context
At retrieval, Investing.com displayed ZEC/USD at 1,363.06 USD, with a quoted 24-hour change of plus 6.89 percent. The same page showed a market capitalization of 22.91 billion USD, 1.04 billion USD in 24-hour volume, 16.94 million ZEC in circulation and a 52-week range of 187.85 to 1,686.17 USD. These are source-displayed market figures rather than a verified UTC daily close comparison.
Yahoo Finance similarly described the planned change as a potential tripling of payment speed and reported that 60 percent of transaction fees are intended for a reserve supporting future miner rewards from February 2031. The upgrade therefore combines a usability change with adjustments to fee and issuance mechanics.
Investor view
The Zcash price is being assessed against a near-term technology catalyst, but the outcome depends on successful coordination across independent software teams and network participants. Testnet results do not guarantee an uninterrupted mainnet transition. Investors should also distinguish the scheduled NU7 changes from later proposals concerning Zcash funding and governance, which are not part of the currently specified upgrade.
