- Zcash developers merged a proposal setting NU7 mainnet activation at block 3,543,405.
- The upgrade targets 25-second blocks instead of 75 seconds and changes the treatment of transaction fees.
- Investing.com displayed ZEC at 1,305.00 US dollars on November 5, 2026, with an intraday gain of 6.90 percent.
- Legacy Sprout funds may become unspendable if they remain there when NU7 activates.
The Zcash price is in focus as the network approaches its NU7 upgrade. A proposal merged in the Zcash ZIP repository sets the mainnet activation height at block 3,543,405. The switch is therefore tied to the chain reaching that height, rather than to a guaranteed calendar timestamp.
Investing.com displayed ZEC at 1,305.00 US dollars on November 5, 2026, at 18:46:33 Berlin time. The page showed an intraday change of plus 6.90 percent, a 24-hour volume of 1.38 billion US dollars, a market capitalization of 22.07 billion US dollars and a market rank of 9. The same page listed a circulating amount of 16.95 million ZEC. These figures are a snapshot and do not establish a causal link between the upgrade and the price.
Block target falls to 25 seconds
According to the merged Zcash ZIPs proposal, NU7 sets the mainnet activation height at 3,543,405 and moves several related ZIPs to Proposed status. The upgrade targets a reduction in block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. That could shorten the time between confirmations, although the target is an average and does not guarantee a fixed interval for each block.
Crypto.news reports that the upgrade would direct 40 percent of transaction fees to miners and set aside the remaining 60 percent for future reissuance. The per-block subsidy is also designed to fall as the target number of blocks increases, keeping scheduled daily issuance broadly steady under the new rules. For users, the practical outcome will also depend on wallet processing and on how exchanges set confirmation requirements.
Legacy balances require attention
NU7 also changes transaction compatibility. Version 4 transactions associated with the legacy Sprout pool become invalid at activation, meaning funds left in that pool could become unspendable after the network reaches the activation height. This is distinct from the fee reserve and from ordinary price volatility. Holders and infrastructure operators must therefore distinguish the pool in which funds are held from the general ZEC balance shown by a wallet.
Node operators and service providers will need compatible software before the consensus change. The timing estimate can shift because activation depends on block production. Investors tracking the Zcash price should consequently watch the actual activation height, exchange notices and post-upgrade network operation rather than relying only on the projected date.
